Job Description: This position oversees and directs financial reporting activities, the general ledger system, and general ledger training. The role ensures adherence to accounting standards, auditing requirements, and regulatory compliance from entities such as the Office of the State Controller, the State Auditor, the North Carolina Community College System Office, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and other relevant governing bodies.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Manage the operations and maintenance of the general ledger system, including the fiscal year opening and closing. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of general ledger data and monitor systems that feed data into the ledger.
Provide expert guidance on accounting policies and procedures to various divisions and departments, addressing complex technical inquiries and performing accounting research as needed.
  1. Interpret and implement new accounting standards issued by GASB and FASB.
  2. Prepare and review all internal and external financial reports, ensuring compliance with state and local governmental requirements. Support the resolution of financial reporting issues.
  3. Offer accounting oversight and reporting guidance for the colleges Services Corporation.
  4. Prepare and review the SABS (Station Activity Benchmarking Survey), SAS (Station Activity Survey), AFR (Annual Financial Report), and other internal/external reports required by WTVI-PBS Charlotte. Ensure timely and accurate submission of financial data.
  5. Provide accounting and reporting guidance regarding WTVI-PBS Charlotte’s financials and Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) grant guidelines.
  6. Oversee the preparation of the college’s annual financial statements and related reports. Serve as the main financial contact for the State Auditor’s Office and State Controller’s Office, managing communications regarding financial statement preparation, the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), year-end closeout, and other necessary matters.
  7. Coordinate the year-end audit process for the college, WTVI-PBS Charlotte, and the Central College Services Corporation.
  8. Supervise departmental staff, including setting schedules, assigning tasks, and evaluating staff performance.
  9. Ensure compliance with GASB 87 (Leases) and GASB 96 (Subscription-Based IT Arrangements) by overseeing inventory and accounting related to leases and software subscriptions.
  10. Manage the college’s fixed asset inventory control, including proper labeling, tracking, record-keeping, and disposal of assets.
  11. Develop and update procedural documentation as necessary.
  12. Represent Financial Services on various committees as needed.
  13. Serve as the data agent for the Ellucian CF Module.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned
