Job Description


The Contract Specialist works within the Office of Research Integrity and Compliance (ORIC) reporting to the Contract Negotiator and supporting the outside activities agreement program in the review and negotiation of individual consulting agreements of our Faculty to ensure alignment and compliance with institutional policies on outside activities.  This position requires independent judgment, strong contracting and drafting skills, problem-solving skills, along with strong customer service orientation.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • 5+ years of contract review & negotiation experience  

  • Has reviewed & edited contracts using MS Office (Word) 

  • Demonstrated ability in utilizing independent judgment  

  • Proven experience in high volume contracts review 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills 

  • Detail oriented 

  • Experience at an academic, research, or hospital is preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Under guidance from the Contract Negotiator, participate in the compliance review of faculty and research staff outside activity agreements 

  • Answer questions from faculty, research staff, directors, administrators, other internal customers or external academic affiliates regarding outside activities agreements policies and processes in formal and informal settings. Facilitate compliance with institutional policies by enabling these individuals to understand policy requirements. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

1. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills and ability to spot policy issues. 

2. Strong with MS Word 

3. Excellent written & verbal communication skills, particularly email communication. 

4. Strong organizational skills, including typing, editing and proofreading skills. 

5. Ability to prioritize and complete tasks independently and in a timely manner.   

6. Ability to make sound administrative judgments and assume responsibility for decisions.    

7. Can maintain information that is sensitive and often confidential.
